The vision is SIMPLE.

To empower and equip all girls to be catalysts in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) by breaking the status quo.

Our Mission

As the world evolves, so do we. We are guided by a vision of breaking the status quo in STEM – a world where all girl’s equal opportunity rights are no longer questioned, forgotten, or marginalized. We evolved from the mission of bridging the gap in STEM careers for girls and minorities to breaking the status quo in STEM for ALL girls.

Our Core Approach

Parental/guardian involvement is critical. We know that a girl’s growth and development begins with the parental/guardian foundation. The core approach breaks into three dimensions that we call our core principles: Mentoring, Tutoring, and Field Experiences.

The Status Quo

PinkSTEM empowers girls and equips them to navigate beyond any under-representation, disadvantage, and/or disability. They are not merely products of their environments. They are producers of their environments. They can run companies and even countries. They can positively impact their communities and their generation. Together we can build the world we want to live in. A world where girls lead at every level in STEM. Together we can break the status quo

Master of Science, Biology/Microbiology
Bachelor of Science, Biology
Position: Program Chair and Instructor, Biotechnology at Central Georgia Technical College
Micro-Biology Mentor

Ke Aira Davis is originally from Macon, Georgia. A graduate of Clark Atlanta University, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Ke Aira also holds a Master of Science degree in Biology/Microbiology. Matriculating through undergraduate studies, she participated in the Clark Atlanta University, Center of Cancer Research Therapeutic Development (CCRTD) as a summer intern. Ke Aira was under the mentorship of Dr. Joann Powell and her project focused on “Localization of AhR using Immunocytochemical Staining and Western Blot Analysis.”The type of drugs demonstrated showed localization in the nucleus of prostate cancer cells. While completing her Master’s degree, Ke Aira had the opportunity to participate in an internship, Research Experience for Undergraduate and Graduate Students (REUG) in China. During this opportunity, she was under the mentorship of Dr. Tyesha Farmerfrom Alabama A&M University and Dr. Liming Bian from Nanjing Forestry University. Her Master’s report focus was “Phenotypic correlations among traits within Chinese fir tree.” It determined the assessment of growth traits, physical features, and province of origin in 30 trees randomly selected in China. The project examined the variation and degree of correlation between these traits.

Ke Aira is a third year Ph.D. student and a member of Dr. Kelly Rice lab. Her work focuses on the “Effects of Simulated Microgravity Growth on Streptococcus mutans Physiology”. Her current work is funded through the NASA Space grant. She also held a position as a Pink S.T.E.M. Ambassador since 2014. She has been heavily involved in Pink S.T.E.M. working closely with her mentor Tamika Ray-Head as a Program Director. She has helped with writing grants and attended grant writing workshops. Attiyya Houston

Attiyya majored in engineering to challenge the assumption of what an engineer could look like.

Degrees: B.E. Biomedical Engineering
Hobbies: Learning, dancing, and problem solving

Biomedical Engineering Mentor

Throughout her time in college, she kept busy with multiple organizations including the Vanderbilt Juggling and Physical Arts Club, the National Society of Black Engineers, and Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. During this time, she was able to get a first-hand look at how differences in educational backgrounds impact the overall college experience as well as student success.

These observations have inspired her to explore topics of education equity, especially as it relates to STEM education, women, and minorities. She believes that to change the climate of women in STEM, we must change the images associated with them. Programs like PinkSTEM are doing just that by inspiring girls to see themselves and their peers as the next generation of scientists and engineers. She’s excited to join program founder, Tamika Ray-Head, and program director, Misty Bryant, in this pursuit.
